Bharada bhat is a Vidarbha special recipe. This is a very nice type of rice that tastes just awesome and the tadka adds more flavours to it. If you are bored of having pulao, masale bhat or amti bhat or dal rice then try this bhat. Just perfect option for you. This bharada is good option for lunch box or can make paratha using it. • 1/2 cup Rice
• 1 cup Water
• Salt to taste
• Turmeric powder
• 1/4 cup Chana dal
• Oil
• 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
• 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
• 1/4 tsp Hing
• Curry leaves
• Green chili paste
• 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
• Red chili powder
• 3/4 cups hot Water
• Salt to taste
• Oil
• Cumin seeds
• Dry red chillies (Optional)
• Hing

• Wash rice really good 3-4 times and soak it in enough water for about 30 minutes.
• As I am using whole basamati rice soaking is necessary. For any other rice like, surali kolam or
Indrayani or Ambe mohor rice no need to soak.
• Drain all the water for rice and transfer it into a pan.
• Add water, salt, turmeric powder and mix well.
• Cover and bring it to boil on high heat.
• When the water begins to boil, turn the gas on medium heat and cook until all the water is
• When all the water is absorbed, turn the gas on lowest possible heat and cook rice for another
10 minutes.
• Turn off the gas and wait for 10 minutes more.
• Separate the rice once.
• For making bharada take chana dal in a pan and roast it a little on medium heat for about 5-6
• When dal begins to release aroma, turn off the gas and let it cool down a little.
• Transfer the dal into a blender jar and blend it into coarse powder. Bharada is all ready.
• Heat up a pan on medium heat.
• Add mustard seeds and let them pop up.
• Add cumin seeds and let it splutter.
• Add hing, curry leaves, green chili paste and mix well.
• Add turmeric powder, red chili powder and mix well.
• Add bharada and fry for about a minute.
• Add hot water, salt and cook it well covered for about 10 minutes.
• When bharada is cooked, transfer it into the cooked rice and mix well.
• For tadka heat up oil in a tadka pan and add cumin seeds, dry red chilies, hing.
• Adding dry red chilies is optional. You can skip it if you don’t like.
• While serving, add the tadka on the rice. This rice is enough for 3-4 people.
